Regularly Scheduled Classes

Faculty who have been certified in active learning have priority in scheduling the ALP lecture halls and classrooms for regularly scheduled classes. Currently, faculty can become certified in one of two ways:

  1. Active Learning Institute For instructors who have moderate to no experience with implementing active learning strategies, we recommend attending the Active Learning Institute facilitated by the Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation (DTEI). Although not strictly for faculty teaching in the ALP, this is an opportunity for those who plan to do so to connect with colleagues and work with DTEI on incorporating more active learning strategies into their courses. For more information, please visit the DTEI website.
  2. DTEI Consultation and Class Observation For instructors who regularly use active and collaborative learning strategies in their courses, a consultation and class observation with DTEI may be a more appropriate option. Instructors who select this option will be asked to meet with DTEI for an initial consultation, provide a lesson plan for the class session to be observed, and then complete the observation. For more information and to begin the process, please email DTEI@uci.edu.

Once a faculty member has started the certification process, DTEI staff will add the instructor’s name to the priority scheduling list. This list is regularly provided to the University Registrar staff, who use it to confirm priority access during the room assignment process. Please note, however, that other prioritization such as utilization and on-module times also apply. See the Classroom Scheduling Policy for more information.

Other Academic Use of Classrooms

Space in ALP is scheduled on a limited basis and priority is granted to academic uses coordinated by a UCI faculty or staff member. ALP space is not available for non-UCI affiliates to schedule. If you are a UCI faculty or staff member, please use this form to submit your request: UCI ALP Academic Use Request.

AntCAVES Study Rooms

The ALP has four ANTeater Collaborative Audio Visual Enhanced Spaces (AntCAVES) available for use by the UCI community. For additional information and to reserve a room, visit the OIT Space Scheduler.
